Characteristics Of Gothic Textura Quadrata

Gothic Textura Quadrata is a very square Gothic script that appears to be woven. Generally, each vertical stroke is very straight and the spaces between the strokes are equal to the width of the stroke. The spaces between the words are twice the width of the vertical stroke. The overall appearance is of a very compressed, very angular hand. This script has diamond-shaped feet at the base of the minims and often has split ascenders and descenders. Letter 'i' also began to be dotted on the top, or to have a short stroke, to differentiate the otherwise difficult to distinguish minim.
