Cadels

Cadels are calligraphic flourishes used on capitals. These embellishments feature extensions of the ascenders and descenders, often with diamond-shaped or square corners when the direction of stroke changes. Cadels are often used in the ex libris section of a manuscript, or at the beginning of a major section.
